McLaren F1 Executive Director of Racing Andrea Stella says that for this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City the team will be focusing on cooling the car. Speaking to Paddock Eye during a pre-event conference call, the Italian said that while the altitude is different to what the team experienced in Austin last time out it is not something that concerns the team on the engine side in terms of performance.

Stella said that Mercedes won’t be the only manufacturer to have potential issues this weekend as Renault, Ferrari and Honda will also experience the same issue but for McLaren, the main challenge is keeping the car cool and this means that they will channel the airflow through the car in a way that helps to keep the engine cool.

McLaren head into this weekend’s race in Mexico with a three and half-point lead in the Constructors championship over Ferrari in the race for third place.

Stella says that the main aim for the team is to consistently score points for the remaining five races of the season and he believes that the fight with Ferrari will go down to the wire and the season finale in Abu Dhabi next month.
