McLaren Executive Director Zak Brown says that competing in last years Indianapolis 500 was a dream come true.
Speaking at the Autosport International Show on Thursday, Brown who has spent the past weekend in Daytona with Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris as they prepare to race for his team United Autosports for the Daytona 24 Hours, commenting saying that the idea about doing the 500 came about when he and Alonso went for dinner.
A week after the dinner, Alonso rang Brown to say he wanted to do the Indianapolis 500 and that is when it all came together with Andretti Autosport.
Alonso had a dream debut starting the race in the top six and having a fantastic race until he retire on lap 179 of 200 with an engine failure.
Speaking about McLaren’s new partnership with Renault he said the team are very excited about the new deal and that Fernando Alonso will work as a brand ambassador for the French manufacturer with whom he won the title with in 2005 and 2006.
