Two-time Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso says that competing in the Indianapolis 500 for motorsport’s Triple Crown is no longer a priority for him.
Speaking at an event for Aston Martin sponsor Cognizant, the Spaniard who won won back to back Formula One world championships with Renault in 2005 and 2006 respectively, said:
I attempted the Indy 500 three times and didn’t succeed. It’s the only one missing [from the triple crown]. But at the moment, it’s not in my plan.
Alonso first competed in ‘The Greatest Spectacle In Racing’ in 2017 in a McLaren Andretti Global Honda entry and finished the race in 24th place having qualified 5th.
In 2019, Alonso and McLaren famously failed to qualify for the race while in 2020 he finished 21st.
Alonso will remain with Aston Martin Aramaco Formula One Team until at least 2026.
