Defending NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and current points leader Alex Palou in the No.10 SOLO Cup Chip Ganassi Racing Honda took a massive step towards retaining his championship on Sunday.
The Spaniard started the race from second on the grid and avoided some of the chaos, to keep his cool in blistering temperatures to claim his sixth win of the season.
Palou heads to the next race in Mid-Ohio with a 93 point lead in the championship over Kyle Kirkwood who finished fourth.
Meyer Shank Racing’s Felix Rosenqvist had his season-best result with second while Santino Ferrucci made two podiums in four races as he came home in third place for AJ Foyt Racing.
It was a great day for MSR all round as Marcus Armstrong was fifth just ahead of Kyffin Simpson and David Malukas.
Nolan Siegel was eighth for Arrow McLaren while Scott Dixon led multiple laps and looked set to claim victory but had to pit with two laps to go.
The result was still a strong one for the Iceman as he started the race from 25th place.
Rinus VeeKay had another solid race for Dale Coyne Racing rounding out the top ten.
Pole-sitter Louis Foster came home in 11th just ahead of Scott McLaughlin and Alexander Rossi.
Callum Ilott was 14th just ahead of Will Power who was 15th.
It was a disappointing race for Colton Herta who came home in 16th just ahead of Christian Rasmussen.
A great qualifying came up short for Graham Rahal as he ended the race in 20th just behind Christian Rasmussen and Pato O’Ward.
Marcus Ericsson was 21st just ahead of Conor Daly and Jacob Abel.
Christian Lundgaard was the last drive to complete the race with Josef Newgarden’s season continuing to unravel following a hard hit for the Team Penske driver.
Sting Ray Robb and Robert Shwartzman also retired from the race.
