Toyota Hilux’s Nasser Al-Attiyah won the opening prologue of the 2021 Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The Qatari, who is a three time Dakar winner in 2011, 2015 and 2019 took victory in the 11KM stage and speaking following the action he said:

Things get serious tomorrow with a long opening stage.”

Stephane Peterhansel and Carlos Sainz were not far behind Al-Attiyah with Peterhansel commented saying:

We feel so lucky to be starting the race, I want to say a big thank you to everybody who has made this possible.

Daniel Sanders who makes his Dakar debut commented:

The bike was flying and I really had a good day. It was good to get rid of some nerves ahead of our first big day tomorrow.”

Nine time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb ended the day just 17s behind Al-Attiyah.
