Meyer Shank Racing team co-owner Jim Meyer says that it is surreal for the outfit after winning not only their first NTT IndyCar Series race but also the biggest race in the world, the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on Sunday after Helio Castroneves took his fourth Indy 500 win in his first race with the team.
For Jim Meyer, it was his 41st Indianapolis 500 in person and he said that he failed to grasp how hard it is to win the race. He said that he is glad that it was Helio who got number four.
Speaking following the race, Meyer said that he thinks it will be no time at all before Jack Harvey heads to victory lane. Mike Shank said that it was great to have Helio in the team who has helped Jack Harvey in the car.
Everything Helio did from lap 150 was planned, it was a chess game. Jim Meyer said the team were very confident following the test here in April, Shank said that Helio was calculated.
Mike Shank said that the shared technical alliance with Andretti Technology is crucial for the success of new teams coming in. Jim Meyer said they are thrilled for all of their partners particularly Honda and they are thrilled. It is the 14 Honda win at the Indianapolis 500 second on the all-time list.
Michael Shank says that he hopes that this result is a sign of things to come. This result is great for the sport. Both Mike Shank and Jim Meyer have been delighted with IndyCar and the work that they have done over the course of the month of May.
Four-time winner Helio Castroneves commented saying:
I love Indianapolis!”. “This is incredible. I had to put my elbows up to fight there at the end. Meyer Shank Racing gave me everything I needed to go fight for the win. Thank you so much to Jim (Meyer) and Mike (Shank) for giving me this chance, and to AutoNation and SiriusXM for supporting us. It was so great to be powered by Honda today. We had such an amazing car and the team did an unbelievable job. I can’t believe it!”
Team co-owner Mike Shank commented saying:
I don’t even know where to start. “Helio drove an incredible race-his experience in this race was there for all to see. I’m so proud to have the partnerships that we’ve built to get to this point. That starts with Jim (Meyer), who has made such an impact on this organization since coming on board and goes to AutoNation and SiriusXM, and of course Honda and the folks at HPD have been just amazing. This is going to take a long time to soak in, but right now I just am a little at a loss for words to be standing here right now after winning the Indianapolis 500!
Jim Meyer says that they never felt they were the little team that could, Having data from eight cars is helpful and the partnership with Andretti is beneficial.
Jack Harvey commented saying:
“First off, congratulations to Helio, what a legend. “And also to Mike Shank, and Jim Meyer, they have built a very strong team and that showed today with this big result. Unfortunately my race didn’t go as well as he had hoped and we don’t have the result we were looking for. So it was a disappointing day for us, but overall I’m so proud of this team and thrilled for AutoNation, SiriusXM, and everyone involved.”
Castroneves said that this is a great moment for everyone. MSR promised me a great car and they delivered. Super honored to be in this group.
The team has shown with Jack already and now we are able to execute I love it.
