Defending Acura Grand Prix Of Long Beach winner Josef Newgarden in the No.2 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet overcame damage to his floor to record the 14th fastest time in practice one on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Californian street race.

The Tennessee native who set a time of 01:07.4273s commented saying:

This place is like a gnarly afternoon on the 405 (freeway) with hella traffic. “It’s Long Beach. I about did that (hit wall) four or five times. Some of the settings we started with were probably aggressive, and I was trying to make the most of it.

“But it’s good vibes here. I love this place, and the Hitachi car is quick.”

Scott McLaughlin was P13 while defending series champion Will Power in the No.12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet was 15th, respectively.
