Arrow McLaren SP’s Oliver Askew driving the No.7 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet had a fantastic qualifying session in what is only his second NTT IndyCar Series race at the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis on Saturday as he will start the race from fifth place.
Askew had a great race debut at the season opening Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway last month as he finished ninth and the 19 year old American has carried that momentum forward to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Speaking after the session where he set a time of 01:10.8404s he said:
Today was more than we could have asked for, honestly. The goal was to move on from Round One of qualifying, but once I felt the car was capable of competing in the Firestone Fast Six, it was game on. The guys at Arrow McLaren SP did a really good job of making the right changes between practice and qualifying. It comes down to that and being able to put down your theoretical best lap together by not making mistakes. Everyone sees how close it is out there in lap times. I felt really good out there, and these are the days I love about racing, when you feel connected with the car and you don’t have to think about it. It just all comes together naturally. Really happy with today.
Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet starts the race from 13th place having setting a time of 01:10.7333s and speaking following the session he said:
We were just outside of getting into the Fast 12 and competing for a spot in the Firestone Fast Six. The No. 5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet is super-fast, and I think we showed that at times throughout the day. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race and making my way to the front. Congrats to my teammate, Oliver, for qualifying fifth and make sure to watch us both tomorrow on NBC at noon ET.”
