A new team aiming to enter the NTT IndyCar Series in 2020 when racing gets underway for real will attempt to qualify for this weekend’s NTT IndyCar Series iRacing Challenge season finale at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday.
Indianapolis based Top Gun Racing with the support of Hagerty Motorsports Insurance and Vintage Indy will aim to have 23 year old former Carlin Racing driver RC Enerson in the field for Saturday’s race.
The 33 car grid will be set during qualifying on Wednesday and speaking about his team, owner Gary Trout who has previous experience in IndyCar as a team owner said:
Incredibly excited to partner with Hagerty Insurance in the final INDYCAR iRacing event with our driver RC Enerson. Top Gun Racing continues to work diligently to enter the INDYCAR series beginning with the Indianapolis 500 this August. Until then we will be rolling out the virtual Top Gun Racing Haggerty Dallara for qualifications tomorrow.
Grant King Race shop owner, Bill Throckmorton who has plenty of experience in IndyCar is also involved in Top Gun Racing and speaking ahead of qualifying he said:
“We are looking forward to qualifying and then racing at the computerized Indianapolis Motor Speedway, even a virtual race is a big deal. A lot of effort has gone into this and we’d like to thank everyone involved.”
RC Enerson commented saying:
I am super excited to be a part of the INDYCAR iRacing Challenge at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Even though we have to qualify on Wednesday I have confidence we will get the Top Gun Racing #99 sponsored by Hagerty into the starting field.
Manager of Motorsport with Hegarty Mark Briggs said:
We are so pleased to be on the sidepods of the virtual Indy car RC will drive this weekend at the greatest race track in the world, and look forward to a very successful racing season.”

Top Gun Racing plan 5o launch their real life NTT IndyCar Series team for the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 23.
