Toyota Gazoo Racing have been in a league of their own during the 2018/19 FIA World Endurance Championship season having taken victory in Spa, LeMans and last time out at their home track in Japan.
Despite their dominance early on in the season, the team are taking nothing for granted as Rebellion Racing have closed the gap in recent races and took victory in the Six Hours of Silverstone in August after both Toyota’s were excluded from the event following a technical infringement.
In his first season in the World Endurance Championship, Fernando Alonso has been the star of the show, not only have the championship pulled off a major coup in bringing the Spaniard on board he has been extremely successful and currently leads the championship.
The two time Formula One world champion took victory on his debut in the Six Hours of Spa and went on to win the 24 Hours of LeMans.
As the series heads to the Shanghai International Circuit for round five of the 2018/19 season it is anyone’s guess as to who can challenge Toyota. SMP Racing have looked competitive in recent races as too have Rebellion Racing so it will be interesting to see what happens next weekend.
