Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel set the fastest time on Friday at the Sepang International Circuit ahead of Sunday’s Malaysian Grand Prix. The opening session turned out to be a wash put due to torrential rain.
Vettel ended the day with a fastest time of 01:31.261s and ended the session just ahead of his team mate Kimi Raikkonen.
Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo was third fastest just ahead of his team mate Max Verstappen while it was a great afternoon for McLaren Honda’s Fernando Alonso who finished up in 5th place.
Championship leader Lewis Hamilton was sixth fastest just ahead of his team mate Valtteri Bottas.
Force India’s Sergio Perez was eighth just ahead of the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg while Esteban Ocon rounded out the top ten in the second Force India.
Jolyon Palmer was 11th in the second Renault just ahead of Felipe Massa, the man he hopes to replace at Williams Martini Racing in 2018.
Stoffel Vandoorne was 13th for McLaren Honda just ahead of Lance Stroll in the second Williams. In his first seasion as a Toro Rosso driver, Pierre Gasly did a great job as not only did he finish the day in 15th place but he was also ahead of his team mate Carlos Sainz.
Romain Grosjean brought out the red flag in his Haas as he lifted a manhole cover. The Frenchman finished the session in 17th just ahead of team mate Kevin Magnussen.
Pascal Wehrlein finished the session in 19th while his Sauber team mate Marcus Ericsson rounded out the order in 20th place.
