Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was the pace setter on the opening morning as winter testing got underway at the Barcelona Circuit Du Catalunya.
The German set a fastest time of 01:22.791s complering 62 laps and end ing the session just ahead of Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team’s Valtteri Bottas who completed 79 laps and had topped the times in the early stages of the morning.
Bottas will hand the W08 over to Lewis Hamilton after lunch.
Sahara Force India’s Sergio Perez was third fastest completing 39 laps in the VJM10 while Williams Martini Racing’s Felipe Massa was fourth fastest.
It was a good morning for Toro Rosso as Carlos Sainz ended the session in fifth place just ahead of the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg.
Hulkenberg ended the morning just ahead of the Haas F1 Team’s Kevin Magnussen, the man he replaced at Enstone.
Marcus Ericsson was eighth fastest for the Sauber F1 Team completing 32 laps.
It was a tough morning for Red Bull Racing as Daniel Ricciardo completed just four laps in the RB13 ending up in ninth place.
While it may have been a tough morning for Red Bull it was an even worse session for McLaren Honda as Fernando Alonso as the Spaniard came to a halt after just one lap due to an oil system issue with his Honda power unit.
