Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel has ruled himself out of the running to replace world champion at Mercedes next season.
Speaking at a Ferrari event at Daytona International Raceway on Sunday, the four time world champion said that both he and team mate Kimi Raikkonen have contracts with the Prancing Horse for next season.
Vettel was immediately thrown into the ring for the Mercedes seat alongside Lewis Hamilton following Rosberg’s announcement that he is retiring from Formula One.
Vettel had a disappointing season at Ferrari in 2016 failing to win a race during the year. Speaking at the Ferrari event, Vettel stated:
I think it is not a big secret that. Kimi and I both have a contract at Ferrari for next year so it should be clear.
Vettel’s comments come after Mercedes non-executive chairman Niki Lauda said that he would like to see either Kimi Raikkonen or Fernando Alonso replace Nico Rosberg as Lewis Hamilton’s team mate for next season.
