Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastien Vettel took victory in the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit on Sunday winning the race just ahead of defending champion Lewis Hamilton who was caught up in a first lap incident with Kimi Raikkonen with the Finn being given a ten second penalty for causing a collision however he was able to recover to finish the race just ahead of the Iceman.
Raikkonen said that it was his mistake and that he deserved the penalty. Valtteri Bottas was fourth for the Mercedes AMG PETRONAS F1 Team just ahead of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo while the Renault Sport F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg finished the race in fifth place.
Esteban Ocon was seventh for the Renault Sport F1 Team just ahead of Fernando Alonso and Kevin Magnussen was ninth for the Haas F1 Team while Pierre Gasly rounded out the top ten for Scuderia Toro Rosso.
Sergio Perez ended the race in 11th place for the Sahara Force India Formula One Team just ahead of McLaren’s Stoffel Vandoorne. Williams Martini Racing’s Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin ended the race in 13th and 14th place while Max Verstappen was classified in 15th despite retiring from the race.
There were two safety car periods and several retirements from the race, Romain Grosjean, Carlos Sainz, both Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team drivers and Brendon Hartley retired from the race.
Vettel now takes an eight point advantage in the championship.
