A new all-female motorsport category known as W Series which is being backed by former Formula One driver David Coulthard and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey will launch in May 2019.

The new series aims to bring a female driver into Formula One with David Coulthard saying that the current structure has not worked in bringing a female driver in Formula One.

Although it hasn’t worked in Formula One, it has worked in other series such as the Verizon IndyCar Series with Danica Patrick and Sarah Fisher being extremely competitive in America’s number one single seater racing category.

The new series will consist of six rounds.
