Arrow McLaren SP drivers Pato O’Ward in the No.5 Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet and Felix Rosenqvist in the No.7 Vuse Arrow McLaren SP Chevrolet say they are confident of a strong race this weekend as the NTT IndyCar Series heads to St Pete for the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
Pato O’Ward said that the team’s performance at Barber Motorsports Park last weekend shows that they are not in the NTT IndyCar Series to mess around.
Speaking to Paddock Eye during a Microsoft Teams Firestone Grand Prix of St Pete pre-race media event on Wednesday, O’Ward said that the car can get stronger and they want to maximize their performance in qualifying and the aim is this season to execute everything in qualifying and the further up you start the easier life is for you and they are excited about St Pete.
Felix Rosenqvist told Paddock Eye that he enjoys the event at St Pete as it was his first-ever NTT IndyCar Series race and that Pato did well there last season as did Oliver Askew who competed here last year.
The Swede confirmed that it is like a home race for him as he won here in Indy Lights. Rosenqvist said that he feels after the performance in Barber that the team can really do some damage in St Pete this weekend and that he is looking to have a clean run and have a good haul of points.
Arrow McLaren SP President Taylor Kiel said that when it comes to the consistency of the team which has continued from 2020 into 21, he feels that the member of the team have become more comfortable in their roles. knowing what to do and when to do it and that the team has changed a lot of their processes and way of working and those things take time to work out so what he thinks they are starting to see now is a team coming together and complimenting one another working together and that it is good to see, we are not a finished product yet and we are continuing to chip away at some of the rough edges but all in all it is coming together sort of speak.
