Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 PPG Automotive Refinish Chevrolet dominated the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park on Sunday claiming his second victory in a week following his win last time out at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Pagenaud who secured the P1 Award on Saturday commented after the race saying:
We are just on a roll, The car is amazing and I am so comfortable driving that PPG car. We made it exciting at the end for the fans, which is great. I am happy there was some action.
The Frenchman who took Roger Penske’s 180th IndyCar Series victory on Sunday has completed the dominated the opening part of the 2016 season scoring podium’s in all four races so far this season starting with a second place finish in St Pete, a second place finish in Phoenix and his win last time out in Long Beach.
Pagenaud finds himself on 188 points heading to the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis next month, 48 points (nearly a race win) clear of reigning series champion Scott Dixon who is second in the champion, while Juan Pablo Montoya in the No.2 Verizon Penske is third on 136 points.
As for his battle with Graham Rahal, Pagenaud commented by saying:
In the end, Graham really caught up and he gave me a good piece of driving that was amazing from him, I put my hat off to him for that. He got me really excited … after I went off track. I said, ‘Yeah, I’m going to get that one back no matter what.’ We had so much pace in the car that I could get back to him, and then it was about being aggressive.
