Hendrick Motorsports Chase Elliott in the No.9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet says he is at a loss for words after bring crowned 2020 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday.
Elliot came from the back of the field having failed pre race tech inspection to not only win the race but in doing also won his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship.
The 24 year old commented following the race saying:
“I’m at a loss for words. This is unbelievable. We did it.”
Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski came home in second place just ahead of his team mate Joey Logano in the No.22 Shell Pennzoil Ford.
Denny Hamlin in the No.11 FedEx Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing came home in fourth place while in his final full-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race, seven time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson in the No.48 Ally Racing Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports came home in fifth place.
Ryan Blaney was sixth just ahead of Stewart Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick and Matt DiBenedetto.
William Byron was ninth for Hendrick Motorsports while Martin Truex Jr rounded out the top ten for Joe Gibbs Racing.
The Busch brothers, Kyle of Joe Gibbs Racing and Kurt of Chip Ganassi Racing came home in eleventh and twelfth place respectively.
