Verizon IndyCar Series champion Simon Pagenaud who won the title in style last weekend at Sonoma Raceway says that he had a phenomenal car.
The Frenchman who went into the season ending double points race with a 43 points advantage over Will Power extended that lead to 44 points on Saturday as he took his seventh Verizon P1 Award of the year while Power started the race from fourth place.
Pagenaud went on to dominate the race for Team Penske and claim his first Verizon IndyCar Series title in style by claiming his fifth win of the season and taking the championship with a winning margin of 127 points. Speaking following the race, the Frenchman commented by saying:
“I tried to take my future in my destiny by being aggressive and going as fast as I could. “Clearly we had a phenomenal car, I think a very dominant car today, so we could do that. I just enjoyed driving today. It was an incredible day and I think it just shows the strength of the 22 team for the whole season.
Pagenaud went on to say:
It’s unbelievable. “I think I will realize it more tomorrow. There is so much emotion right now, to be honest, I can’t find the words. My whole career has been about this, about today and getting to this point and to this level.”
