Hailie Deegan says she had an awesome day as she made her NASCAR Gander Truck Series debut at Kansas Speedway on Saturday.
Deegan finished the race in 16th place and speaking to Fox Sports just after the race ahe said:
Awww man I think my goal was to just finish the race. It’s crazy compared to Arca racing, how intense this racing is, how competitive it is, you’re trying to block one guy and pass the other and the next thing you know, you’ve got two guys blowing past you if you don’t make a successful pass. It’s just a lot tougher rscing. I think we definitely had a successful day. We could have had some bad situations there but we stayed out of them and I got a bit nervous there in the pitstop almost ran out of gas on the green flag pitstop. At the end of the day it is such a high intensity pace of racing i am looking forward to doing more of it.
Deegan’s finish, which was the best result for a female driver in the NASCAR Truck Series comes after Ford announced that Hailie will move up to the NASCAR Camping World Series in 2021.
Speaking ahead Saturday’s race about the announcement Deegan said:
I am excited for this next step in my career with Ford Performance. “I have raced trucks in the off-road world but to now have the opportunity to race trucks next season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is a dream come true.
