Renault Sport F1 Team’s Nico Hulkenberg says he wants to turn the Enstone based outfit into a real contender over the next few years.
The German has joined Renault from Force India which many felt was a gamble but Hulkenberg is happy with his decision. Force India finished the 2016 season in fourth place in the Constructors championship ahead of the Williams Martini Racing and head into 2017 as the ‘best of the rest’ behind Mercedes, Red Bull Racing and Ferrari.
Speaking to the official Formula One website, Hulkenberg said he felt like it was time to leave his ‘Force India marriage’ and has found a new ‘girlfriend’ in Renault.
Hulkenberg replaced Kevin Magnussen at the Enstone outfit and will be hoping that with the resources of a ‘works’ team that they can move up the grid in the next few season. The German went on to thank Force India especially following such a great season in 2016.
Hulkenberg said that he is excited and motivated to be working with a new team and that the team will work harder to catch up to their rivals.
Hulkenberg and Palmer will answer to a new team principal following the news on Wednesday that Frederic Vasseur has resigned from the team.
