Team Penske president Tim Cindric says that the outfit will see how the weekend plays out in Sonoma before sending any instructions to their drivers during the final race of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar Series, the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Josef Newgarden goes into the race weekend leading the championship by three points from Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon and speaking to Paddock Eye during a teleconference on Monday evening Cindric said that the team don’t want a repeat of what happened happened in 2015 when Will Power and Juan Pablo Montoya collided with each other.

Three of Penske’s drivers, Josef Newgarden, Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud still have a chance of winning the championship on Sunday while Will Power still has an outside chance of winning the title but Cindric admitted that in order for Power to win the title a lot things would have to happen in order for the Australian to win.

Newgarden leads the championship on 560 points, Helio Castroneves in third on 538, reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud is fourth on 526 points and Will Power is in fifth on 492 points.
