Organisers of the Firestone Grand Prix Of Monterey at WhetherTech Raceway Laguna Seca which usually hosts the NTT IndyCar Series season finale are excited to be hosting a doubleheader race weekend.
It was announced on Monday that due to the continued COVID 19 global pandemic that the start of the season will be delayed until June 6 following the cancellation of the Chevrolet Belle Isle Grand Prix Of Detroit presented by Lear.
As part of the announcement, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Iowa Speedway will host two races each while the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will host three races during the season with the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis taking place on July 4, the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge takes place on August 23 while the IndyCar Harvest Grand Prix of Indianapolis on October 3.
Speaking about the news, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca president and general manager John Narigi said:
Given all the race rescheduling efforts due to the COVID-19 crisis, IndyCar executives contacted Dewayne Woods with the County of Monterey and asked if we would be willing to conduct back-to-back races over the Sept. 18-20 weekend. “We enthusiastically said ‘yes, of course.
Narigi went on to say:
We are energized with the prospect of significantly contributing to the revival of Monterey County. “We also look forward to providing ticket holders who will be visiting with even greater value now that there will be even more on-track intensity with back-to-back races.”
