Sauber F1 Team Principal Monisha Keltenborn has hit out at criticism of her driver Pascal Wehrlein who sat out the Australian Grand Prix last weekend.
Some sections of the media were critical of the fact that the German only gave the team very short notice following practice that he was not going to race.
Wehrlein informed the Swiss based outfit that he felt he was not fit to race ahead of qualifying and was replaced by Ferrari reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi.
Keltenborn felt that the criticism was unwarranted and that Wehrlein should be praised for his honestly. She went on to say that Wehrlein who did not take part in testing following his accident at the Race of Champions in January should be given time to return to the cockpit.
