The NTT IndyCar Series has had some incredibly dramatic on track moments in 2022, however, as the Series prepares for their return to Toronto this weekend for the first time since 2019 it is what is going on off track that is overshadowing this weekend.

Chip Ganassi Racing announced on Tuesday afternoon that they had exercised their option to retain defending series champion Alex Palou for 2023.

Later that afternoon, Palou refuted this claim saying that he had not authorised the release from Ganassi and the comments credited to him did not in fact come from him.

Shortly after Palou’s series of tweets, McLaren Racing announced that THEY had signed Alex Palou for 2023.

Fast forward to Tuesday evening, the official IndyCar Series website reported that a text from Gabassi reaffirmed the fact that THEY have a contract with Palou for 2023.

It is certain that the IndyCar paddock is going to be extremely busy this weekend.

It is going to make the rest of the season extremely difficult for Ganassi/Palou relationship however, the Spaniard has reaffirmed his commitment to seeing out the season with Ganassi.
