It’s the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge race day! The biggest question on everyone’s lips is, what can Team Penske’s Will Power and Josef Newgarden do from the back of the grid?
Power and Newgarden have had well-documented troubles this week following the qualifying chaos last weekend. What we do know is the team are going to be very fast.
There are other fast cars throughout the field, so seeing how fast Power and Newgarden can reach the front will be interesting. The Honda-powered teams are fast this year, with five in the top ten.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon and championship leader Alex Palou have been speedy this year in May. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato has also been speedy despite his April open test crash.
Scott McLaughlin in the No.3 Pennzoil Chevrolet has shown great speed so far in May and is starting 10th; he will be a driver to watch today. However, watching the progress of all three Team Penske drivers, particularly Will Power and Josef Newgarden, will be exciting.
The Greatest Spectacle In Racing always provides crazy racing, and the introduction of the hybrid system adds something extra to the mix in terms of excitement.
Josef Newgarden is trying to achieve a three-peat, which is unprecedented in Indianapolis Motor Speedway history.
