The news came as somewhat of a surprise. Arrow McLaren announced on Tuesday that Alexander Rossi, who only joined the team ahead of the 2023 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season will leave the outfit at the end of the year and will be replaced by Christian Lundgaard.

So what does that mean for the 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner?

In motorsport like any other sport you are only as good as your last event which in Rossi’s case is a good thing as he finished on the podium in third place at the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca last time out.

With the top teams like Chip Ganassi Racing, Andretti Global and Team Penske having their drivers locked into long-term contracts there are no options available.

The one team that had at least one opening is Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, it is conceivable that Rossi could replace Christian Lundgaard alongside Graham Rahal and Pietro Fittipaldi while team co-owner Bobby Rahal has confirmed that he would like to run a fourth car full-time providing there is funding available although Paddock Eye understands that the team are looking to give Juri Vips a spot so he could slot into Lundgaard’s vacated seat with Rossi taking the fourth entry.

Another option for Rossi could be Meyer Shank Racing as David Malukas, who was released by Arrow McLaren earlier this year is only contracted to MSR until the end of the season.

So there are a number of options still available to Rossi but it is a matter of watch this space!
