The news on Friday that Michael Andretti has stepped away from ownership of Andretti Global, the team he founded in 2003 sent shockwaves across motorsport particularly the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
So what next for the 1991 CART INDYCAR SERIES champion?
According to Andretti Global, Andretti will remain involved with the organization as an advisor but beyond that the team said that they will make announcements about the team in coming weeks.
Andrettibrought in Marcus Ericsson in the No.28 Delaware Life Honda for 2024 to drive alongside Kyle Kirkwood and Colton Herta.
Colton Herta finished second in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES championship, 31 points behind champion Alex Palou.
Andretti Global has been taken over by Daniel Towriss, owner of Group 1001, who sponsor Colton Herta with their Gainbridge brand.
It is unclear what Towriss has planned for the team but Andretti Global did say that more news will be forthcoming when Michael Andretti and Mr Towriss have spoken to Andretti Global employees.
It is understood that Andretti was far from happy with how the NTT INDYCAR SERIES and Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been run under the leadership of Roger Penske and Penske Entertainment Corporation, this did not sit well with Mr Penske.
The story of Andretti selling his share of Andretti Global to Group 1001 and Daniel Towriss was first reported by Sportico, a publication owned by Roger Penske’s son, Jay.
