Williams Martini Racing’s deputy team principal Claire Williams says that the Grove based outfit want to do what’s best for Valtteri Bottas.
The Finn has for weeks being linked with a move to Mercedes to replace world champion Nico Rosberg who has retired from Formula One at the end of last year as Lewis Hamilton’s team mate.
Speaking at the 2017 Autosport International Show on Sunday, Williams confirmed that they are now in the final stages of discussions with Mercedes over the possibility of Valtteri Bottas moving to Mercedes. Speaking on the Autosport stage, Williams said that discussions with Mercedes are on going and it is now just a case of:
Crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s, at the moment with all the contracts.
Williams said that it is not just a case of doing what’s best for Bottas but also for the 650 other people working for the team.
Williams also said that the team need to find the best possible replacement for Bottas should they allow him to leave the team. Williams also confirmed that if she decides not to release Bottas, Mercedes will be fine with it as they are a customer of the German manufacturer and pay their bills on time.
