Andretti Autosport entered the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series season with high hopes. Michael Andretti brought highly rated American driver Alexander Rossi on board through a partnership with former driver Bryan Herta with the pair forming Bryan Herta Autosport with Rossi joining Ryan Hunter Reay, Carlos Munox and Marco Andretti at the team.
In the opening race of the year, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg Ryan Hunter Reay finished on the podium in third place behind race winner Juan Pablo Montoya and Simon Pagenaud.
Carlos Munoz finished the opening race in eighth place while Alexander Rossi on his Verizon IndyCar Series debut finished the race in 12th place with Marco Andretti 15th. In Phoenix Rossi started the race from 14th place and that is where he finished. In Long Beach, Rossi ended the race in 20th.
At the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama, Rossi finished the race in 15th place having started the race from 20th place. The month of May started out with Rossi scoring his first top ten finish at the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis.
At the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 with Bryan Herta as his strategist, Rossi started the race from 11th place and did a fantastic job to coast home on fumes to take victory leading Carlos Munoz home to give Michael Andretti a 1-2 finish at the iconic race. With four races to go this season, Rossi finds himself leading the Sucono rookie points standings and is currently in 11th place in the series standings. The Colombian also secured a podium finish last time out at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio where he finished the race in third place behind race winner Simon Pagenaud and Will Power.
Ryan Hunter Reay is currently in 13th place on 294 points. Carlos Munoz has done a great job this season and finds himself in eighth place in the series standings on 328 points just one point behind Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe.
Marco Andretti has had an extremely disappointing 2016 campaign and is currently in 18th place in the series standings on 237 points. Andretti Autosport are the only Honda powered team to have scored a victory this season as Chevrolet have been so dominant this season scoring all but one win this year.
