It’s finally here! The Month of May. The Verizon IndyCar Series centerpiece is this month. The opening four races of the 2017 season have been action backed and full of surprises with plenty of drama.
Honda and Chevrolet head to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with two wins a piece. Sebastien Bourdais got the ball rolling for Honda taking victory in the opening race of the season, the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.
At the Toyota Grand Prix of Log Beach it was Honda power that once again proved to be the winner with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports James Hinchcliffe taking victory in the No.5 Arrow Honda. At Barber Motorsports Park it was Josef Newgarden’s turn to take to Victory Lane in the Chevrolet powered No.2 Fitzgerald Glider Kits for Team Penske.
At the weekend it was reigning series champion Simon Pagenaud who took victory in the Desert Diamond West Valley Phoenix Grand Prix at Phoenix International Raceway.
This time last year, Chevrolet headed into the month of May with four wins from the opening four races and when you compare that to this season it just goes to show how far Honda have come when it comes to development over the winter.
Heading to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway it is going to be interesting to see who has the upper hand this season.
In the Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis last season, Simon Pagenaud in the No.22 Menards Chevrolet started from pole position and took victory while in the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil, James Hinchcliffe took the Verizon P1 Award, the first of his Verizon IndyCar Series career driving the Honda powered No.5 Arrow Electronics car for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
In the race it was Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi in the No.98 NAPA Auto Parts Honda who took victory.
The conditions on the day will play a huge role in the outcome of the race. It is shaping up to be another classic Month Of May at the Speedway.
