The Women with Drive Summit IV kicked off in Indianapolis on Monday with a day of tours.
Starting at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the early afternoon, Summit attendees, some of whom had never been to the Brickyard before got the opportunity to do a lap of the oval, the home of the Greatest Spectacle In Racing, the Indianapolis 500, where we learnt about the history of the track.
Following the lap of the track we had the opportunity to ‘kiss the bricks’.
1992 Indianapolis 500 rookie of the year, Lyn St James, the co founder of Women in Motorsports North America joined us on the tour.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway tour was great but the best was yet to come.
Following the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we headed to the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing shop in Zionsville. There we were brought into the main reception where Bobby Rahal’s Indy 500 winning cars is on display alongside Takuma Sato’s car from last season and Graham Rahal’s United Rentals Honda.
From there we were brought into Rahal’s command central where their shop based engineers work out of.
It was a wonderful experience to get a behind the scenes look at the team from both the IMSA and INDYCAR side.
From Rahal we headed to Andretti Global where we got to see their race bays and some of their old INDYCAR’S including Dario Franchitti’s 2007 Indianapolis 500 winning car.
The final stop on the tour was Chip Ganassi Racing where we got to see all of their trophies on display.
We also got to see their old cars and plenty of other things in the shop.
