Arrow McLaren SP team co-owner Sam Schmidt had revealed that his team could be interested in entering a car for Kyle Busch in the 107th running of the Indianaplis 500 presented by Gainbridge next year.

Busch who, last week confirmed that he will join Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series after 15 years with Joe Gibbs Racing said during the announcement of his new deal that he was open to compete in the Indianaplis 500 if he was approached by a team.

Paddock Eye understands that, Sam Schmidt who is a co-ownwr of Arrow McLaren SP with McLaren Racing and Ric Peterson is keen to make a deal happen.

Busch revealed last week that he had a deal to compete in the Indianaplis 500 a few years ago but his team owner Joe Gibbs refused to release him to race.

There are a number of potential stumbling blocks to overcome before such a move could happen for 2023.

Arrow McLaren SP will have three cars full-time in the NTT IndyCar Series next season with Alexander Rossi having joined the team from Andretti Autosport along side Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist.

It remains unclear what Juan Pablo Montoya will do but if he decides to return to Arrow McLaren SP for the month of May including the Grand Prix on the IMS road course that would give Arrow McLaren SP five cars in the race.

There is also the added pressure of whether or not McLaren would have the personnel available as the Monaco Grand Prix is same weekend as the Indianaplis 500 on Sunday 28th May.
