Legendary NTT INDYCAR SERIES team owner Chip Ganassi of Chip Ganassi Racing says he is both honored and humbled to receive the Daniel M Rooney Ambassador Award during Monday’s Ireland Funds Pittsburgh Gala dinner.
Speaking to Paddock Eye on Wednesday about how he feels about receiving the Daniel M Rooney Ambassador Award, Ganassi said:
I am both honored and humbled to receive such recognition because it is an award from Pittsburgh and I still just feel like that Pittsburgh kid that loved to go racing. The past honorees and many of the people at the event are still some of my mentors and people I look up to so that made it extra special.
Ganassi was celebrated for his contributions to business and his success in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. He was joined at the gala by his three drivers: defending champion and current points leader Alex Palou, six-time series champion Scott Dixon, whose primary sponsor is PNC Bank, a Pittsburgh-based financial institution, and Kyffin Simpson, who is in his second season in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.
Speaking to Paddock Eye about having his three drivers alongside him at the event, Ganassi said:
To have my drivers there made it extra special for me. Scott and Alex alone represent 9 of our 16 championships and Alex has won our last three. It was special indeed.
Chip Ganassi Racing heads to California this weekend for The Thermal Club INDYCAR Grand Prix, where they will be aiming to continue their strong start to the season. The team scored a 1-2 finish at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg presented by RP Funding, where Alex Palou took victory just ahead of Scott Dixon.
