Andretti Autosport’s Colton Herta in the No.26 Gainbridge Honda ended the second practice at the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg presented by RP Funding fastest with a time of 01:00.0779s while it is was a disastrous session for six-time series champion Scott Dixon as he hit the wall heavily and ended the morning in P13.
Scott McLaughlin was second in the No.2 DEX IMAGING Chevrolet with a time of 01:00.2511s ending the session ahead of Rinus VeeKay and Kyle Kirkwood while Alex Palou was fifth just ahead of his Ganassi team-mate Marcus Ericsson while Romain Grosjean who spun early in the session ended the morning in seventh just ahead of the Arrow McLaren trio of Felix Rosenqvist, Alexander Rossi and Pato O’Ward.
David Malukas was 11th for Dale Coyne Racing with HMD Motorsports Honda, while Jack Harvey was 12th for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing just ahead of Scott Dixon while Christian Lundgaard while Josef Newgarden ended the session in P15 just ahead of Helio Castroneves and Conor Daly while Simon Pagenaud ended the session in P18. Defending series champion Will Power was in P19 as Marcus Armstrong rounded out the top 20 for Chip Ganassi Racing.
Juncos Hollinger Racing’s Callum Ilott and teammate Agustin Canapino were 21st and 22nd place respectively while Graham Rahal was 23rd fastest just ahead of Santino Ferrucci and Benjamin Pedersen for AJ Foyt Racing while Sting Ray Robb crashed heavily ended the session in 26th while Devlin DeFrancesco rounded out the order in 27th.
