JR Hildebrand has revealed that he nearly fielded his own car and team for the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2022 and had everything in place but ultimately the deal fell through as the engine was too heavy.
The Californian went on to compete in the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500 in a third AJ Foyt Racing entry.
Hildebrand also confirmed that a deal for him to run a team in the 2023 Indy 500 was in place only for a major INDYCAR commercial partner to veto the deal.
Hildebrand’s comments came in response to an image of him in a Hildebrand INDYCAR.
