Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, driver of the No.2 PPG Hitachi Chevrolet says that it was an embarrassing situation to have to go through after being disqualified from the Firestone Grand Prix of St Petersburg.

The facts matter and the truth is important. I want to deeply apologize to the fans and our competitors.

Newgarden said he was baffled that there was no checks or balances to ensure this didn’t happen.

Speaking about what happened when he spoke to Roger Penske, Newgarden said that Penske was not happy and interrogated him.

Newgarden said that he fell short of the high standards that he and the team set themselves and for that he is deeply sorry for.

The Tennessee native who was speaking to the media on Friday morning at Barber Motorsports Park said that he wanted to address the disqualification directly instead of just putting out a statement via social media.
