Josef Newgarden in the No.2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet took a surpsing victory in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway in what was a chaotic race.

The Tennessee native took victory despite spinning during the race, he caused controversy during a late restart resulting in his teammate and championship contender Will Power retiring from the race.

Scott McLaughlin came home in second place while Linus Lundqvist scored his second podium of the season coming home in third place.

Championship leader Alex Palou in the No.10 Samaritan’s Purse Chip Ganassi Racing Honda took a huge step to scoring his third championship as he ended the race in fourth after being promoted following a penalty for Colton Herta who was fifth.

Felix Rosenqvist ended the race in sixth while Nolan Siegel was seventh for Arrow McLaren.

Marcus Armstrong ended the race in eighth place just ahead of AJ Foyt Racing’s Sting Ray Robb who had a fantastic result coming from 24th to finish the race in ninth place.

Rinus VeeKay had a great day as he rounded out the top ten for Ed Carpenter Racing.

It was a tough day at the office for Scott Dixon who ended the race in 11th, two laps down following an ill-timed caution.

AJ Foyt Racing’s Santino Ferrucci in the No.14 Bommarito Automotive Group Chevrolet was 12th just ahead of Conor Daly who had a great day for Juncos Hollinger Racing as he came home 13th on his debut for the team.

Pietro Fittipaldi was 14th just ahead of his teammate Christian Lundgaard and Romain Grosjean who was the last car to finish.

Ed Carpenter was 17th while Will Power was classified 18th despite retiring from the race following a clash with Alexander Rossi who also retired from the race.

There were over 650 on track passes which was a record for the circuit.

Jack Harvey was classified in 20th just ahead of Davod Malukas who also retired from the race.

Kyle Kirkwood, Graham Rahal and Marcus Ericsson retired.

Kyffin Simpson retired early from the race as did Pato O’Ward and Katherine Legge.
