Defending NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion Alex Palou in the No.10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was fastest in the opening practice session of the XPEL Grand Prix of Road America on Friday, where he set the fastest time of 01:43.1709s, ending up just ahead of Colton Herta in the No.26 Gainbridge Andretti Global Honda with a time of 01:43.2506s.

Santino Ferrucci was the fastest Chevrolet-powered driver in third place in the No.14 Sexton Properties Chevrolet for AJ Foyt Racing, having set a time of 01:43.3618s.

Indianapolis 500 winner Josef Newgarden in the No.2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet was fourth fastest with a time 01:43.3812s just ahead of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Christian Lundgaard, while Scott Dixon, who has won here twice, rounded out the top six.

Will Power was 7th, just ahead of Scott McLaughlin, while Pato O’Ward was ninth. Marcus Armstrong ended the session by rounding the top ten with a time of 01:43.6957s despite bringing out a red flag at the end. Pietro Fittipaldi was 11th for Rahal Letternan Lanigan Racing.

Felix Rosenqvist was the 12th fastest for Meyer Shank Racing, just ahead of Kyle Kirkwood and Rinus VeeKay. Alexander Rossi was 15th for Arrow McLaren.

Graham Rahal was 16th just ahead of Luca Ghiotto of Dale Coyne Racing while Theo Pourchaire was 18th for Arrow McLaren. Marcus Ericsson was 19th while Kyffin Simpson rounded out the top twenty.

Helio Castroneves was 21st for Meyer Shank Racing just ahead of Linus Lundqvist and Christian Rasmussen was 23rd just ahead of Sting Ray Robb and Jack Harvey. Nolan Siegel was 26th for Juncos Hollinger Racing having stepped into the car for the first time today filling in for Agustin Canapino while Romain Grosjean didn’t complete a fast lap after crashing hard on his out lap at the start of the session.
