Dale Coyne Racing’s Jacob Abel, who was confirmed as the driver of the No.51 Honda on Monday, says that his goal for the 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season is to win the Rookie Of The Year championship as he prepares to come up against Louis Foster at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing and Robert Schwartzman at PREMA Racing. Abel comes into INDYCAR having tested for Chip Ganassi Racing last year, for which he is very thankful to Chip Ganassi Racing’s Mike Hull and Taylor Kiel.

Speaking to Paddock Eye during content day at the Indianapolis Convention Center on Tuesday, Abel said:

Yeah, it’s hard to say. We just, again, finished everything up, so I haven’t really even had a chance to breathe yet and catch my breath and look into everything yet, but I think the first and easiest thing and goal would be that Rookie of the Year title. I think it’s going to be Robert Shwartzman and myself and Louis, who I’m familiar with racing against.

I think we’re all in similar sized teams, similar positioned, but I think that’ll be a pretty competitive race. I think that’s one of the goals, at least, looking forward. Similar to that with the Indy 500.

But yeah, I think there will be dynamic throughout the year. If we show up and have a really good St. Pete, then everything changes. Then all the goals change throughout the year.

I think for me personally it’s going to be trying to maximize every single opportunity that I have and make the most out of all of it and just learn as much as I can. I’m in a very, very fortunate position to have a full season to be able to go out there and learn and learn from my mistakes and hopefully learn from my non-mistakes, too, and just — just hopefully try and keep building throughout the whole entire year, not trying to take too much at once.

Abel will get his first taste of the Dale Coyne Racing Dallara at the full test at Sebring next month.
